Watering tips for transplanted greenery

Soil conditions and weather are variable across all gardening venues and locations. The first year after planting is critical. Generally speaking, if your soil is moist to begin with,  most plants use 1 inch of water a week during the growing season. The soil should be kept evenly moist by watering regularly. Overwatering can be as detrimental as under watering. It is better to water once a week and water deeply, than to water frequently for a few minutes. The same watering recommendations apply to trees and perennials.
