Pawpaw Tree Facts
When searching for information on Paw Paw trees I found many slang or localized nicknames for the Paw Paw tree. The names ranged from Custard Banana, Michigan Banana Tree, Nebraska Banana to Hardy Banana Tree. They are all great names to describe the Paw Paw fruit. I also found that Paw Paw is also known as Pawpaw. Not sure what the correct spelling is but I think everyone looking for the Paw Paw tree finds it on-line with either spelling. The Paw Paw fruit itself is a greenish yellow and the pulp is a banana custard flavor. It can be eaten fresh and used in various recipes from cookies to pies.
The tree will reach up to 30 feet in height and approximately 20′ in width. In the spring the Paw Paw tree delivers fragrant, tulip shaped, purple flowers. The tree life span is from 30 – 80 years and is pest and disease free.
