The best uses for portable beds

When camping or visiting a friend’s house, if there is no form of bed available for you it may be necessary to take your own. There are two main options for portable bedding, aside from the less substantial options of bedding mats and sleeping bags, which can be purchased from most camping or outdoor stores.
An air mattress or air bed is usually made of PVC vinyl plastic. The deflated mattress can be rolled or folded up and carried relatively easily as it will not weigh a great deal. You can blow an air mattress up yourself, by blowing into a valve, or more easily with a manual foot pump or electric pump. If there is no source of electricity where you are camping, manually is your only option. Some air mattresses have an automatic inflate option, although only up to a certain pressure. Some additional inflation is usually required.
Some air mattresses are designed to be lightweight and reduced in size and thickness, specifically intended for camping and backpacking. These are sometimes known as sleeping pads, especially when an additional layer of foam for insulation and comfort is added beneath the mattress.
Be aware that if you are thinking of allowing a child to sleep on an air bed that there have been some warnings about this, as infants can be suffocated within the folds or whilst entrapped between the mattress and bed case if the bed is too soft.
A camp bed is a small, portable and lightweight bed. Originally these kind of beds were used by armies or government organisations, but over the past few years lots of camping stores have started selling portable beds of a similar style and design. Camp beds consist of a lightweight frame that can fold up and is covered with canvas, linen or nylon.
